When I tried to understand Korea, I thought about traditional Korean dance and K-Pop.

K-pop has been influencing the world lately. But K-pop dance is a group dance. In that, they are looking for unity; Moving in unison and dancing like robots. Pop culture is looking for sameness whereas 4 of us are looking for individuality and unique expressions in our own practice.

한국에 대해 이해하려고자 할 때, 나는 우선 한국 전통 춤과 K-Pop이 떠올라. K-pop이 최근 세계에 영향을 미치고 있는데 그 중 K-pop 댄스는 단체 춤이야.

그 안에서, 그들은 단결을 찾고 있어; 일제히 움직이며 로봇처럼 춤추는 것. 팝컬쳐에서는 이렇게 '같은 것'을 추구하는 반면, 우리 4명은 오히려 각자의 실천에서

개성과 독특한 표현을 찾고 있는 것 같아.

Also, for me, it’s interesting that our practice is more genderless. In pop culture, you can see typical gender movement. 

We are 2 guys and 2 female. So, I thought about how to take details of gender representation. In K-pop choreography,

they use tiny gestures, details, and repetitions. So my question is how we can each deconstruct K-pop in different layers.

또, 우리의 작업에는 젠더구분이 없다는 점이 흥미로운것 같아. 팝컬쳐에서는 전형적인 젠더의 움직임을 볼 수 있어. 우리는 남자 2명 여자 2명이니깐 성별차이에 대해 어떻게 구체적으로 표현하면 좋을 지 고민해보았어. K-pop 안무에서는  작은 몸짓, 디테일, 반복을 사용하고 있어. 

그래서 내 질문은 어떻게 우리가 각자의 움직임으로 K-Pop을 해체하느냐 하는 것이야.

Question, how is HK idol groups? Are they same like K-pop idols? 

​질문. 홍콩 아이돌그룹은 어때? 그들도 K-Pop아이돌이랑 비슷한가?

HK idols are more like following the trends of the world. A few years ago, they followed the trends of J-pop. Now, they are like K-pop. 홍콩 아이돌그룹은 세계의 트렌드를 따라가는 편이야.  몇 년 전엔 J-Pop(일본대중가요)트렌드를 따랐는데, 지금은 K-Pop이랑 비슷해졌어.

It sounds interesting. Any further steps we can take? 

흥미롭네. 그럼 다음단계로 뭘 하면 될까?

Question too. What do you think about K-pop? Have you had any experience in performing K-Pop? 

나도 질문. 민선과 진안은 K-Pop에 대해 어떻게 생각해? K-Pop무대에 서 본적 있어?

Used to dance as a backup dancer in the older generation of K-pop as a part-time job.

Not anymore. We also think that K-Pop choreography is amazing these days.

Also, naming the main movement is a brilliant marketing idea. For example, BTS dance is out of the normal K-pop dance format. Their choreographical structure is more like contemporary dance. 

K-pop is a group dance but It will be interesting to do(Record) it alone. 
전 세대 아이돌그룹의 백댄서 알바를 하긴 했었어. 이제는 안하지. 우리도 K-Pop안무가 요즘 대단하다고 생각해. 그리고 메인안무에 

이름을 붙여서 마케팅하는 것도 좋은 생각이고. 예를 들면, BTS댄스는 보통 K-Pop댄스와는 포맷부터가 다른 것 같아. 그들의 안무적

​구조는 오히려 현대무용같을 때도 있어. K-Pop은 그룹댄스이지만, 우리가 각자 춤을 추고 녹화를 할테니 흥미롭겠어.

Any favorite groups? For me, I only know BTS, EXO, Twice...etc. 좋아하는 K-Pop그룹이 있어? 나는 BTS, EXO, 트와이스 정도밖에 몰라. 

We don’t know much either but there are also the 1st generation of K-pop idols. How about we choose our own?

사실 우리도 잘 모르는데 1세대 케이팝 아이돌들도 있어. 그냥 우리 각자 알아서 선택하면 어때?
